Where I’d Like To Go

The “About” section has now been updated with my inspiration and goals behind this blog–and I now crosspost some of that section here for all to see:

The idea came for this blog in my first semester of college after I had to create a short 2-3 podcast “credo” in my Journalism 101 class that explored part of our personal philosophies.  I decided to focus my podcast on how many of the themes of fantasy worlds and their stories portray core truths in our own world and in particular can shed light by pointing to and reinforcing truths of Christianity.  In this podcast I mostly touched upon the more obvious titles that come to mind that fit this mindset such as Lewis’ Narnia and Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.  These are far from the only kinds of fantasy I focus on, though–for example, I’ve also found in times where I’m thinking about things that I can find connections to faith through some stuff that might come across as weird to some of you reading this–stuff like the animanga epic One Piece and Disney fare like “The Princess and the Frog” and “Tangled”!  I think I’ve been feeling an itch or perhaps even a push by God to be more open and share some of this stuff that I’ve mused over.  And so here is this blog!

I would like to especially note that one thing I view as a main difference between my blog and a site like Plugged In is that the goal of the latter’s site is mainly to screen for things like violence, sexual content and language and then provide recommendations to [technically anyone, but mainly] parents as to what is most appropriate for their children.  This isn’t necessarily always a bad thing–I myself have used sites like Plugged In on occasion to help me figure out whether a piece of entertainment is worthwhile.  However, while my blog may sometimes touch upon content issues I hope to for the most part focus more on discussion of a work’s thematic elements and how connections to Christian faith and life might be made.  This blog is not meant to be a guide to parents as to what their children should and should not partake in.

So without further ado, prepare to read some MASSIVE overanalysis.  Because overanalyzing fiction is just plain fun!  I hope you glean some interesting tidbits here that will point you to the greatest Story of all of our redemption through Jesus Christ into a reconciled relationship with Father, Son and Holy Ghost.  Praise God from whom all blessings flow!  I hope to have my decision and post on my first review soon.

God bless,

Sarah

P.S. I may or may not post my original podcast piece up eventually–I’d like to but it depends on whether or not I can find and post the file.

Hello world!

This is “Of Faith and Fantasy,” my new blog devoted to musings about various aspects of fantasy worlds and the parallels they have to core truths in our own world.  My name is Sarah.  It’s a little late as I set up this blog, so consider this a work-in-progress.  But rest assured I plan on setting up another entry with a more thorough explanation of where I’d like this blog to go and will hopefully get in full gear soon!  Stay tuned! ^_^

God bless,

Sarah
